Do I need a permit?

A Permit To Construct A Structure* is required whenever you are constructing, reconstructing, demolishing, converting, or placing a structure on a property. A permit may also be required for a change in use of a building, and/or a change of use of a property. Contact the Zoning Enforcement Office for details.

*The Zoning Enforcement Office will issue the permit to the applicant after it has verified that the construction project complies with the requirements of the Sanbornton Zoning Ordinance. Please note that the Town of Sanbornton does not enforce the State of New Hampshire building codes; however, all construction projects must comply with the current International Residential Code (IRC), and all other codes adopted by the New Hampshire State Building Code Review Board.

In addition, you may also be required to obtain permits from the Sanbornton Fire Department for your project such as for heating devices, a Certificate of Occupancy, etc. Please contact the Sanbornton Fire Department to review your projects Life Safety requirements.

Also, the Zoning Enforcement Office issues sign permits; required for most signs. Contact the Zoning Enforcement Office for details.
